You'll hear me say this a lot, because it's something I've become super passionate about.

"Don't let AI happen to you. Make it happen for you."

By sitting back and letting other people decide or shape how AI becomes the norm, in life and work, we're letting it happen to us.

By using AI as your brain, instead of your thought partner, and not playing an active role in what you're creating or working on, you're letting AI happen to you. And you're not exercising your most important muscle- your brain.

By seeking distractions, keeping our heads down and allowing technology (not just AI) to keep us looking at screens, we're letting AI (and most other things) happen to us.

By spending less time with ourselves and not knowing what we even want from the world, and what's truly special about us as individuals, we're letting AI happen to us.

And, by seeking and surrounding ourselves with news, views and events that support what we already think and feel, we're missing out on so many opportunities to grow and learn, that inadvertently, we're letting AI happen to us.

It's our responsibility as humans to make AI happen for us. To embrace and use it, and shape how it will be used. To help shape how it shapes our future. And to know that to be human is something that AI can never replace, as long as we keep actually being human.

As long as we start looking up from our screens and distractions.

As long as we relearn how to spend time with ourselves.

As long as we start valuing human qualities again. At some point we stopped. We decided that productivity, efficiency and pure intelligence were more important than depth, nuance, seeing and being seen, original thought, a unique voice, empathy and creativity.

If it's only productivity, efficiency and pure intelligence we care about then AI can and will replace it. If it's using our innate and irreplaceable human essence, our unique voice because it's ours, our way of thinking, our candor and our complexity, then we might find that we're completely irreplaceable to the future of earth. We will create and grow businesses that celebrate who and how we are while using AI to support us.

So many of us are terrified of how quickly things are changing. We're uncomfortable and anxious. We're probably scrolling and streaming more than ever just to keep our minds from exploding.

Instead, I challenge all of us to do something totally human. Do something to ensure AI doesn't replace you.

Practice gratitude.

Plant a vegetable.

Look up at the beautiful sky and marvel at it.

Sit in your power.

Sit in your pain.

Do this every day. And as you start feeling more human again, start thinking about your work as an inseparable part of who you are.

If you don't do it for yourself, do it to shape the future of the world. Do it for your livelihood. For your kids. For being part of where AI goes instead of just a passenger waiting to see where we land.

Remember, that the biggest threat AI poses to us is that we're out of practice being 'human'. By honing what makes us human, we turn AI from something that's happening to us, to something happening for us. The individual and the collective.

Then contact me, because I want to help your role or business thrive in an AI world.
